The ProFibre Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) system connects to a distributed fibre optic cable and determines temperature and distance data at thousands of points along the length of the cable. The fibre optic cable acts as the sensing element. 

 

The ProFibre Sensor Control Unit is responsible for generating alarms based upon the calculated temperature profile. The ProFibre DTS can detect the location of a hot spot on a 5km length of fibre optic cable with. The system is able to monitor multiple hot spots, the physical distance along the fibre, temperature and also in real-time.

TECHNOLOGY PRINCIPLE

DTS utilises the Raman effect to measure temperature. An optical laser pulse sent through the fibre results in some scattered light reflecting back to the DTS, where it is analysed. The intensity of the Raman scattering is a measure of the temperature along the fibre. The Raman anti-Stokes signal changes its amplitude significantly with changing temperature. 

 

The position of the temperature reading is determined by measuring the arrival timing of the returning light pulse similar to a radar echo. This method is called OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometry).

 

Introduction of DTS Optic Fibre Controller

There are 2 models of optic fiber controller : WT-GL-100 (wall-mounted type) and WT-DTS-7000 (rack-mounted type).
